Preventative Treatments

SDF

Silver DIamine Fluoride, also known as SDF, is a liquid that is applied to teeth with a small brush. It contains silver, which kills germs that can cause tooth decay, as well as fluoride to prevent, slow down, or stop decay. SDF can be placed on teeth as soon as tooth decay is detected. It works best on primary (baby) teeth. It also works best when decay is relatively small. This can be a great treatment option for younger kids who cannot tolerate keeping their mouths open for extended periods of time.

The only downside to this treatment is that it will turn the area of decay black. However, it will be in the back of the mouth and not visible. We do have images in the office that we are happy show you.
